What you can try if bubbles come out as you fill/refill-

I say CAN because I doubt that it's Epson recommended and I can't recommend something that might have some adverse effect.

This is something that my husband and I figured out (actually it was his idea). It is awkward to do at times, but seems to produce very good results. Again, I can't RECOMMEND it, because I don't know if there is any sort of faster damage to the cartridge sponge material, etc.  I know that we have done this when we run into "bubbles" though.

By bubbles I mean when you have drawn the ink into the syringe, and you are putting it into the cartridge, you might get only a small amount of ink into it before you start noticing bubbles coming out of the ink.

First of all, keep some tissue or something close to the hole so that if there is only a couple of bubbly spots, you can just "pop" them and continue on. This is common.

However, if you find that there seems to be excessive bubbles coming out, you probably have air pockets in the cartridge.  Here's what we tried and it seems to work:

  1. Grab an extra syringe/needle combination.
  2. Fill one syringe with ink that you want to fill into the cartridge.
  3. Keep the second syringe empty.
  4. Place the filled syringe fairly deep (careful not to puncture) in the cartridge.
  5. Place the empty syringe ALSO inside the same fill hole, but MUCH more shallow.
  6. Two people doing this is almost a necessity, but maybe one person could try it.
  7. As one syringe FILLS the cartridge, the shallow syringe is PULLING out the air bubbles and trace amounts of ink.
  8. When one finishes, stop them both. Draw more ink out of the bottle prior to squirting the bubbled ink back into the bottle.

I don't know the issues involved where you might run into some sort of contamination of the ink if you had old ink and new ink both in one bottle, so I recommend using a new container to squirt the bubbled ink into to ensure that it doesn't hurt the fresh ink. If this is your first fill and you have virgin cartridges, though, I would think it safe to put the ink back into the same bottle.

If you have a 'foamy' ink bubbles, just throw it out (only the ink that was sucked out of the cartridges with the bubbles). That is not likely usable ink and will do more damage than good for you.

Please don't hesitate to email me with further questions or post questions to the Yahoo Groups board where we are all willing to chip in with tips and advice when possible.
